Small nucleolar RNA SNORA73B (H/ACA box 73B) is a long noncoding RNA that belongs to the H/ACA box class of snoRNAs and is found within the introns of the SNHG3 gene in humans[1]. Its canonical function is to guide the isomerization of specific uridines to pseudouridine in target RNAs—a modification critical for the maturation of 18S rRNA and thus for ribosome biogenesis[1][3][4]. Beyond its conserved roles in ribosomal RNA processing, SNORA73B has additional functions, including: - promoting protein secretion by serving as a molecular glue between mRNA encoding secreted proteins and the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex, - stabilizing mRNAs such as MIB1 by increasing pseudouridylation, thereby influencing ubiquitination pathways and activating NOTCH signaling, - modulating the alternative splicing of genes (for example, RCC1), affecting cell proliferation and migration, especially in cancer[1][2]. SNORA73B is among the most abundant snoRNAs in human cells and is essential for multiple aspects of RNA metabolism. In disease, especially endometrial cancer, upregulation of SNORA73B promotes tumorigenesis by affecting the stability of oncogenic mRNA and altering cell signaling pathways[2]. There are currently no drugs targeting SNORA73B, but its disease associations suggest potential as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis or prognosis.
