Small nucleolar RNA SNORD29 (SNORD29, also known as U29) is a short non-coding RNA molecule found in the nucleolus of eukaryotic cells[2][3]. It belongs to the C/D box family of snoRNAs, characterized by conserved C (UGAUGA) and D (CUGA) sequence motifs[5]. SNORD29 functions mainly as a guide RNA, directing the site-specific 2'-O-methylation of the 28S ribosomal RNA at residue A4493 in humans[2]. These modifications contribute to the stability and functional assembly of ribosomes[6]. SNORD29 is encoded within an intron of the U22 host gene, along with other snoRNAs such as U22 and U25–U31[2]. While snoRNAs as a class have been implicated in broader regulatory functions and disease pathways, SNORD29's primary known role remains the modification of rRNA, with no current evidence of direct involvement in human disease or therapeutic targeting[2][1].
