Overview

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD30 (also called U30) is a member of the C/D box class of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) characterized by signature C (UGAUGA) and D (CUGA) box motifs[2][3][1]. It is encoded within the U22 host gene in mammals. SNORD30 primarily functions as a guide RNA to direct 2'-O-methylation modifications on target ribosomal RNA molecules, a process essential for proper rRNA maturation and ribosome function[2][3][1]. Like other C/D box snoRNAs, it is part of small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein complexes (snoRNPs) located in the nucleolus, where it binds to specific proteins (fibrillarin, NOP56, NOP58, SNU13) to execute its modification activity[1][3][5]. There is currently no evidence to support its use as a therapeutic target, nor are there approved drugs that interact with it[2][3][4]. **Notes:** - SNORD30 is not considered a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.; rather, it is a non-coding RNA involved in RNA modification[2][3][1]. - While the snoRNA class is being studied for roles in disease (including cancer), there are no specific disease associations or drug interactions known for SNORD30[3][4]. - No safety concerns, biomarkers, or mechanisms of action related to drug therapy are currently reported for this RNA.
