Overview

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD35B (also known as U35B) is a non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the C/D box class of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs)[2][5][6]. It functions as a guide RNA primarily directing the site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs, especially 28S ribosomal RNA, where it is predicted to guide methylation of residue C4506[2]. SNORD35B is encoded within introns of ribosomal protein genes and acts as part of a small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein (snoRNP) complex, associating with core proteins such as fibrillarin, NOP56, NOP58, and SNU13[1][5][6]. These snoRNPs are essential for rRNA modification and proper ribosome assembly. SNORD35B has no known direct drug interactions or pharmacological mechanism of action, but its upregulation in cancer tissue and urine, particularly in renal cell carcinoma, has been identified, making it a potential biomarker for disease detection and monitoring[4]. It is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or transcription factor, but is important in RNA regulation and cellular homeostasis.
