Small nucleolar RNA SNORD56B (SNORD56B)

Target
SNORD56B
Molecular classification
Small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA), C/D box snoRNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD56B is a non-coding RNA belonging to the C/D box family of snoRNAs. It contains conserved sequence motifs called the C box (UGAUGA) and D box (CUGA) and directs site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs, primarily ribosomal RNA[1][5]. SNORD56B is encoded within an intronic region of a host gene (NOL5A), and, like other snoRNAs, is a constituent of snoRNP complexes together with proteins such as NOP56, NOP58, Snu13, and fibrillarin[3][5]. These complexes are essential for rRNA processing and assembly, localizing to the nucleolus for modification of nascent rRNAs[5]. While important for cellular homeostasis, SNORD56B itself is not identified as a direct therapeutic target, and it has not been associated with drug interactions or safety issues.
