Molecular classification
Small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA), Non-coding RNA, C/D box snoRNA

Overview

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD62 is a non-coding RNA of the C/D box snoRNA class, primarily known as a guide RNA for site-specific 2’-O-methylation of target RNAs, particularly the 18S ribosomal RNA at residue A590[1]. It is localized in the nucleolus of eukaryotic cells and is typically found within introns of host genes. SNORD62 exists as two paralogous copies (SNORD62A and SNORD62B) in the human genome. Like other C/D box snoRNAs, it contains conserved C box (UGAUGA) and D box (CUGA) sequence motifs essential for its function and interaction with canonical protein partners in the small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein complex (snoRNP). There is no evidence that it is a therapeutic target or that it directly interacts with any drugs or acts as a clinical biomarker at this time[1][3].
