Small nucleolar RNA SNORD62B (SNORD62B)

SNORD62B
Molecular classification
Other (small nucleolar RNA, box C/D family), non-coding RNA

Overview

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD62B is a non-coding RNA belonging to the box C/D family of snoRNAs, characterized by conserved C box (UGAUGA) and D box (CUGA) sequence motifs[1][5]. It resides in the nucleolus of eukaryotic cells and acts as a guide RNA, directing the site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs, especially ribosomal RNA. In humans, SNORD62B (alongside a highly similar copy, SNORD62A) is found within introns of a host gene and is specifically predicted to guide 2'-O-methylation of the 18S rRNA at residue A590[1]. SNORD62B is essential for the proper modification and maturation of ribosomal RNA, but is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct drug target[1][5]. Although altered snoRNA expression in general can be relevant to diseases such as cancer, there is currently no evidence attributing a direct disease or therapeutic biomarker role to SNORD62B specifically[3][4].
