Small Ribosomal Subunit Protein uS2 (uS2)

Target
uS2
Molecular classification
Ribosomal Protein, RNA-binding protein
01

Overview

Small ribosomal subunit protein uS2 is a universally conserved component of the small ribosomal subunit, present in all domains of life. It plays a critical role in the assembly and function of the ribosome, which is responsible for translating mRNA into proteins. In eukaryotes, it is part of the 40S subunit; in prokaryotes, it is found within the 30S subunit. In vertebrates, post-translational modification (acetylation) converts monomeric uS2 into a dimeric form that functions as a cell surface laminin receptor.
