Small ribosomal subunit protein uS5 (RPS2)

Target
RPS2
Molecular classification
Ribosomal protein, Component of 40S ribosomal subunit, S5P family of ribosomal proteins
01

Overview

Small ribosomal subunit protein uS5 (RPS2) is a cytoplasmic protein that forms part of the 40S small subunit of the ribosome, an organelle responsible for catalyzing protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells[1][2][8]. RPS2 is involved in ribosome assembly, translation initiation, and RNA binding, and is crucial for accurate protein translation and cell viability[1][4][8]. It is a member of the S5P family of ribosomal proteins and plays critical roles in nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal RNA and assembly of the functional ribosome[1][2]. Mutations in RPS2 have been linked to Diamond-Blackfan anemia[1]. Additionally, RPS2 can serve as a tumor antigen and may be suitable as a cancer biomarker or immunotherapeutic peptide but is not currently an established therapeutic target[3].
