SSBL5P (Small RNA binding exonuclease protection factor La like 5, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene with high sequence similarity to the SSB (Sjogren syndrome antigen B) gene but is considered nonfunctional (not producing an active protein)[3][5][8]. Pseudogenes like SSBL5P often arise from reverse transcription events resulting in processed or unprocessed noncoding gene fragments integrated into the genome[6][8]. While most pseudogenes do not carry out biological functions, some can act as regulators at the RNA level, such as miRNA decoys, endogenous siRNA sources, or indirectly modulating gene expression[2][4][9]. For SSBL5P, no specific regulatory or pathological function has been described, and it is absent from lists of known drug targets or disease biomarkers[3][5][8].
