Overview

Snail family transcriptional repressor 3 (SNAI3) is a zinc finger transcription factor and member of the Snail protein family, which includes SNAI1 and SNAI2. SNAI3 functions as a transcriptional repressor by binding to canonical E-box DNA sequences (CAGGTG and CACCTG), thereby inhibiting the transactivation of target genes, particularly those involved in muscle cell differentiation. Highest expression levels are observed in thymus and skeletal muscle. Unlike SNAI1 and SNAI2, which have well-defined roles in epithelial-mesenchymal transition and tumor progression, SNAI3's physiological role in mammals remains less well characterized, and knockout studies in mice indicate it is not essential for embryogenesis[1][3][4][5].
