Overview

Snail family zinc finger 1 pseudogene 1 (SNAI1P1), also known as SNAI1L, is a processed pseudogene on human chromosome 2q34 that shares sequence similarity with the SNAI1 gene encoding a zinc finger transcriptional repressor[4][6]. Unlike SNAI1, SNAI1P1 does not code for a functional protein but has regulatory roles at the RNA level. Recent research indicates SNAI1P1 may function as a competitive endogenous RNA, decoying microRNA-153, and thus preventing miR-153 from repressing SNAI1 mRNA. This molecular interaction results in elevated SNAI1 protein expression, indirectly promoting EMT and increasing the invasive potential of cancer cells, notably in endometrial cancer[2]. It is not a direct therapeutic target and does not encode a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or conventional drug target, but research suggests it could serve as a prognostic biomarker in oncology[2][6].
