Snake venom toxin is a complex mixture of biologically active molecules secreted by specialized glands in snakes, primarily used for prey immobilization, digestion, and defense. The venom contains a variety of proteins, peptides, and enzymes, including phospholipases A2, metalloproteinases, serine proteases, three-finger toxins, and cytotoxins. These toxins act through various mechanisms, including neurotoxicity, hemotoxicity, and cytotoxicity, leading to paralysis, hemorrhage, tissue necrosis, and potentially death.
