SNAP25 antisense RNA 1 (SNAP25-AS1)

Target
SNAP25-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)

Overview

SNAP25 antisense RNA 1 (SNAP25-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene located antisense to the SNAP25 locus. It does not encode a protein. SNAP25-AS1 is predicted to be involved in processes such as SRP-dependent cotranslational protein targeting to the membrane and signal sequence recognition based on computational analyses. Recent studies suggest that SNAP25-AS1 plays a role in cancer biology, particularly in lung cancer, where it is included in lncRNA-based prognostic signatures and is implicated in hypoxia-associated gene regulatory networks. Its specific molecular function and precise biological roles remain under investigation, and it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target, nor are there drugs known to modulate it directly.
