Overview

SNRPE pseudogene 5 (SNRPEP5) is a processed pseudogene related to the small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide E gene (SNRPE). Pseudogenes like SNRPEP5 are non-functional copies of genes that arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically do not produce functional proteins. While the original SNRPE gene encodes a protein essential to the spliceosome machinery involved in mRNA splicing, SNRPEP5 contains characteristic mutations and lacks evidence of protein-coding capability[4][7]. Pseudogenes may sometimes transcribe RNA with regulatory functions, but there are no data indicating that SNRPEP5 acts as a regulatory RNA or has clinical significance as a protein or nucleic acid target[4][6][7].
