Target intelligence / Profile preview

Sodium-and chloride-dependent gamma aminobutyric acid transporter 3 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Transporter, Neurotransmitter:sodium symporter family (SLC6)
01

Overview

GAT3 is a high-affinity, sodium- and chloride-dependent plasma membrane transporter responsible for the uptake of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It mediates GABA reuptake into glial cells, primarily astrocytes, playing a crucial role in terminating synaptic GABA action, regulating extracellular GABA levels, and modulating neuronal excitability.
