Sodium channel modifier 1 (SCNM1) is a zinc finger protein acting as an RNA splicing factor and component of the minor spliceosome, particularly involved in the splicing of U12-type introns in pre-mRNAs[6][2][3]. It directly participates in the splicing process by interacting with spliceosome proteins (U1-70K, Smith (Sm) proteins) and can modify the phenotypic expression of mutations in the sodium channel gene Scn8a, especially in mouse[1][2]. SCNM1 may also regulate primary cilia length and Hedgehog signaling[6]. This gene is recognized as a *modifier* of the effects of sodium channel gene mutations and is not an ion channel or receptor itself, nor is it a direct pharmacological target[2][6].\nNo known drugs, biomarkers, or direct therapeutic roles for SCNM1 in humans are described.
