The sodium channel protein type IIA alpha subunit (Nav1.2) is a pore-forming component of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) essential for initiating and propagating action potentials in excitable cells. It is a major target for local anesthetics and anticonvulsants. Mutations in the SCN2A gene, which encodes Nav1.2, are associated with various neurological disorders, including epilepsy and neurodevelopmental syndromes.
