Sodium-dependent Citrate Transporter (NaCT)

Target
NaCT
Molecular classification
Solute Carrier Family 13 (SLC13), Transporter
01

Overview

Sodium-dependent citrate transporter (NaCT), encoded by the SLC13A5 gene, is a sodium-coupled symporter responsible for importing citrate into cells, primarily in the liver and brain. It plays a crucial role in regulating cytosolic citrate levels, influencing fatty acid synthesis, cholesterol biosynthesis, and energy metabolism. NaCT deficiency or mutation leads to disrupted hepatic metabolism and neurological disorders. NaCT inhibition is being explored as a therapeutic strategy for metabolic diseases.
