Sodium-dependent Noradrenaline Transporter (NET)

Target
NET
Molecular classification
Transporter, Membrane protein
01

Overview

The sodium-dependent noradrenaline transporter (NET) is a membrane protein responsible for the reuptake of extracellular norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and, to a lesser extent, dopamine from the synaptic cleft back into presynaptic neurons. This process is essential for regulating neurotransmitter levels in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Dysfunction or altered expression has been linked to psychiatric disorders such as ADHD and depression; it is also implicated in cardiovascular diseases. NET is targeted by several classes of drugs, including tricyclic antidepressants and SNRIs.
