Target intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium-dependent phosphate transporter PiT-1 (SLC20A1) is a member of the solute carrier 20 (SLC20) family of membrane proteins. It functions primarily as a sodium-phosphate symporter, transporting inorganic phosphate (Pi), specifically the monovalent form (H₂PO₄⁻), into cells. PiT-1 plays a crucial role in maintaining physiological phosphate homeostasis and is involved in vascular calcification, renal disease, and other pathologies. It is also implicated in cell proliferation and cancer biology.
