Target intelligence / Profile preview

Sodium-dependent phosphate transporter type III member 2 (PiT-2)

Target
PiT-2
Molecular classification
Solute Carrier Family 20, Type III sodium-dependent phosphate symporter, Transporter
01

Overview

Sodium-dependent phosphate transporter type III member 2 (PiT-2), encoded by the SLC20A2 gene, is a sodium-phosphate symporter that plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular and systemic phosphate homeostasis. It transports inorganic phosphate across cell membranes, primarily in neurons and kidney proximal tubule cells. PiT-2 also serves as an entry receptor for some oncoretroviruses. Mutations in SLC20A2 can lead to primary familial brain calcification.
