Target intelligence / Profile preview

Sodium-glucose co-transporter 1 (SGLT1)

Target
SGLT1
Molecular classification
Transporter, Membrane protein
01

Overview

Sodium-glucose co-transporter 1 (SGLT1) is a membrane protein responsible for the active transport of glucose and galactose into cells, primarily in the small intestine and kidney tubules. It mediates secondary active transport, using the sodium gradient to drive uptake of glucose against its concentration gradient. SGLT1 is a potential therapeutic target for diabetes mellitus.

02

Mechanism of action

Inhibition of intestinal glucose absorption; increased urinary glucose excretion
