Sodium Hyaluronate (HA)

Target
HA
Molecular classification
Polysaccharide, Glycosaminoglycan
01

Overview

Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan found abundantly in connective tissues, skin, eyes, and joints. It is highly hydrophilic (water-attracting) and plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue hydration, lubrication, and structural integrity. It is widely used across dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics/rheumatology—and increasingly explored within biomedical engineering—for its unique hydrating/lubricating properties combined with safety and stability advantages over native HA forms. Its applications range from topical moisturizers/wound dressings through injectable therapies for joint disorders up through surgical aids protecting delicate tissues during operations.
