NKCC1 is a membrane transport protein that mediates the secondary active, electroneutral co-transport of sodium (Na⁺), potassium (K⁺), and chloride (Cl⁻) ions into cells. It plays essential roles in maintaining cell volume, ion homeostasis, fluid secretion, neuronal excitability, and cell migration. Aberrant expression or function has been linked to neurological disorders and certain cancers. Loop diuretics inhibit NKCC1.
