Sodium taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP) is a sodium-dependent transporter protein primarily expressed on the basolateral membrane of hepatocytes in the liver. It plays a central role in hepatic bile acid uptake and homeostasis, as well as serving as an essential entry receptor for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis D virus.
