Overview

Na+-taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP), also known as SLC10A1, is a sodium-dependent transporter protein predominantly expressed in the basolateral membrane of hepatocytes. It plays a central role in hepatic uptake of bile acids, steroid hormones, and thyroid hormones, and also functions as a receptor for hepatitis B and D viruses.
