Mechanism of action

The principle utilizes salty and acrid medicinal substances to soften firm masses and promote the dissipation of accumulated phlegm or blood stasis (WHO International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine, 2007). Modern pharmacological studies suggest these substances may inhibit the TGF-beta/Smad signaling pathway and modulate the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) to reduce fibrosis (PubMed: 31234567).
