They function primarily as "blocking antibodies" that compete with allergen-specific IgE for binding to allergens, thereby preventing the cross-linking of IgE on mast cells and basophils (PMID: 19538381). In the context of therapeutic intervention, the induction of high-affinity allergen-specific IgG is the primary goal of allergen immunotherapy (AIT) for conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and venom hypersensitivity (PMID: 28212938). Monitoring serum levels of these antibodies serves as a critical biomarker for assessing the clinical efficacy and immunological progress of desensitization protocols.
