Soluble Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor (suPAR)

Target
suPAR
Molecular classification
Receptor, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is the circulating, soluble form of the membrane-bound urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), also known as CD87. It is primarily expressed on immune cells, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells. suPAR results from proteolytic cleavage of uPAR during inflammation or immune activation. Elevated levels of suPAR are associated with increased activation of the immune system and correlate with disease severity across various acute/chronic diseases, predicting morbidity/mortality risk. It plays roles in receptor activity, cell adhesion & migration, chemotaxis, and angiogenesis.
