Solute carrier family 10 member 2 (SLC10A2), also known as the apical sodium-dependent bile acid transporter (ASBT) or ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT), is a sodium/bile acid cotransporter primarily expressed in the ileum. It mediates the reabsorption of bile acids from the small intestine, playing a crucial role in enterohepatic circulation, cholesterol homeostasis, and lipid digestion. SLC10A2 is a therapeutic target for gastrointestinal disorders and metabolic diseases, with inhibitors under development to modulate bile acid recycling.
