Target intelligence / Profile preview
Solute carrier family 2 facilitated glucose transporter member 2 (SLC2A2 / GLUT2) is a transmembrane carrier protein that enables the facilitated movement of glucose and other hexoses across cell membranes. It plays a vital role in glucose homeostasis, particularly in the liver, pancreatic beta cells, small intestine, and kidneys. GLUT2 has a low affinity but high capacity for glucose, allowing for bidirectional transport based on concentration gradients. Mutations or altered expression are associated with diseases like Fanconi-Bickel Syndrome and Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
