Solute carrier family 25 member 1 pseudogene 1 (SLC25A1P1) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene. It is homologous to the functional gene SLC25A1, which encodes a mitochondrial citrate transporter, but SLC25A1P1 itself contains sequence disruptions that prevent functional protein translation. Like many pseudogenes, SLC25A1P1 may be transcribed, but there is currently no evidence of biological activity—either as a protein or regulatory non-coding RNA. Pseudogenes in general can sometimes influence gene expression via mechanisms such as acting as microRNA decoys, but this has not been observed or described for SLC25A1P1. SLC25A1P1 does not currently play a role in human disease, is not a therapeutic target, and has no known relationship to drugs, biomarkers, or clinical monitoring.
