Solute carrier family 25 member 16 (SLC25A16)

Target
SLC25A16
Molecular classification
Transporter, Mitochondrial carrier protein
01

Overview

SLC25A16 encodes an integral inner mitochondrial membrane protein that contains three tandemly repeated mitochondrial carrier domains, facilitating the transport and exchange of small molecules—primarily coenzyme A—between the cytosol and the mitochondrial matrix[1][3][4][8]. It is a member of the large SLC25 mitochondrial carrier family, which mediates the transport of essential metabolites and cofactors required for mitochondrial metabolism[2]. SLC25A16 has been identified as an autoantigen in Graves’ disease, recognized by patient antibodies, but its exact metabolic function and physiological substrate are not yet fully elucidated[3][6]. Disease associations include Graves’ disease and certain congenital nail disorders, though there are no well-validated pharmacological modulators or approved interacting drugs[3][4][8].
