Solute carrier family 25 member 30 (SLC25A30) is a mitochondrial inner membrane protein that functions as an antiporter, primarily transporting inorganic anions including sulfate, sulfite, thiosulfate, and phosphate, and to a lesser degree, certain dicarboxylates such as malate and aspartate[1]. It is a member of the mitochondrial carrier family (SLC25), the largest group of solute transporters in humans, which are critical for the exchange of metabolites, ions, and cofactors between the cytosol and mitochondrial interior[1][5]. SLC25A30 shows higher affinity for sulfate and thiosulfate than for other substrates, and may be involved in exporting sulfite and thiosulfate—products of hydrogen sulfide breakdown—thereby participating in cellular sulfur metabolism and homeostasis of mitochondrial ions[1]. No drugs or disease biomarkers specifically targeting SLC25A30 have been reported, and its clinical disease associations remain unclear as of current literature.
