Solute carrier family 25 member 41 (SLC25A41) is a mitochondrial inner membrane transporter that belongs to the extensive SLC25 family, also known as the mitochondrial carrier family (MCF)[4]. These carriers are integral membrane proteins containing six transmembrane helices and a characteristic MCF signature motif[3]. While SLC25A41 has several transcript variants and may be referred to by multiple alternative names (e.g., SCaMC-3L), its precise substrate is not well characterized. Broadly, SLC25 proteins facilitate the exchange of various metabolites, nucleotides, and cofactors necessary for mitochondrial and cellular energy metabolism, often operating via antiport or symport mechanisms. The family as a whole is crucial for mitochondrial function and cell viability[1][2][4]. Although dysfunctions in related SLC25 transporters are implicated in several inherited metabolic diseases, there is no direct evidence to date linking SLC25A41 itself to specific human pathologies or targeted drug therapies.
