SLC25A5P8, or Solute carrier family 25 member 5 pseudogene 8, is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that is related to the SLC25A5 gene, which encodes a mitochondrial ADP/ATP translocase (an adenine nucleotide transporter)[1][3][6]. Unlike its protein-coding paralog SLC25A5, SLC25A5P8 has lost its coding potential due to accumulated mutations and does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like SLC25A5P8 can sometimes be transcribed into RNA, and pseudogene transcripts have been implicated in gene regulation or cellular pathways in some contexts[7]. However, there is no evidence that SLC25A5P8 operates as a functional transporter or plays a direct molecular role in disease pathways; rather, it may be used as a marker in transcriptomic analyses for some diseases such as cancers[3][4].
