Solute carrier family 25 member 6 is a mitochondrial inner membrane protein responsible for the bidirectional exchange of ADP and ATP between the cytoplasm and the mitochondrial matrix, facilitating ATP synthesis and cellular energy provision. It also plays a key role in mitochondrial permeability transition pore complexes (PTPC), regulating apoptosis through pore opening, and can participate in mitochondrial uncoupling and thermogenesis. SLC25A6 is widely expressed and highly conserved; disruptions in its function may contribute to disease states such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and mitochondrial disorders.
