SLC26A10P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, predicted member of the solute carrier family (anion transporter superfamily)

Overview

SLC26A10P ("Solute carrier family 26 member 10, pseudogene") is annotated as a human pseudogene belonging to the SLC26 family of anion transporters[3][1]. While bona fide SLC26 family members facilitate membrane anion exchange—playing roles in electrolyte homeostasis and diseases[1]—SLC26A10P itself does not produce a functional protein and is therefore not involved in any known biological processes, molecular transport, or pathologies in humans[3]. The pseudogene status means it is considered a nonfunctional genomic remnant with sequence similarity to active members of the SLC26 family. SLC26A10P should not be confused with SLC26A10, which in some databases is also identified as a pseudogene[1][3]. The solute carrier (SLC) superfamily contains numerous functional transporters, many of which do play key roles in physiology and are considered therapeutic targets[1][4], but SLC26A10P is not among them. About 30% of annotated SLCs are "orphan" (unknown substrate/function)[4]; however, pseudogenes like SLC26A10P are specifically annotated as nonfunctional and are excluded from therapeutic targeting efforts[3][4].
