Solute Carrier Family 3 Member 2 (SLC3A2)

Target
SLC3A2
Molecular classification
Transmembrane glycoprotein, Solute Carrier, Transporter, Amino Acid Transporter, Polyamine Transporter
01

Overview

SLC3A2 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that functions as the heavy subunit of heterodimeric amino acid and polyamine transporters. It is crucial for trafficking its partner light-chain transporters (SLC7 family) to the plasma membrane and enabling their function. Specifically, it forms complexes like LAT1/SLC7A5, responsible for transporting neutral branched-chain and aromatic amino acids. Under certain conditions, SLC3A2 can facilitate polyamine uptake, particularly putrescine, via an antiport mechanism. Its interaction with integrins also links it to cell growth and tumorigenesis, making it a potential therapeutic target in cancer and metabolic diseases.
