Overview

Solute carrier family 35 member B3 (SLC35B3) is a protein-coding gene encoding a Golgi membrane antiporter responsible for mediating the transport of 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS), the universal sulfate donor, from the cytosol to the Golgi lumen, where it is required for sulfation of proteins, glycosaminoglycans, and other molecules. SLC35B3 is involved in key cellular sulfation processes and is expressed in various tissues, with a preferential expression in human colon tissue. Mutations or dysfunctions in SLC35B3 have been associated with chondrodysplasia with joint dislocations (GPAPP type) and thiamine-responsive megaloblastic anemia syndrome[1][2][3][8].
