Target intelligence / Profile preview
Solute carrier family 35 member G2 (SLC35G2), also known as transmembrane protein 22 (TMEM22), is a polytopic transmembrane protein belonging to the SLC35 family of nucleotide sugar transporters, specifically recognized as an EamA drug/metabolite transporter-like protein with two EamA domains. It is predominantly localized to the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, endosomes, and lysosomes, where it is believed to contribute to the transport of nucleotide sugars, supporting glycoprotein formation and potentially participating in cellular homeostasis. SLC35G2 is differentially regulated in cancers such as renal cell carcinoma, with evidence that its expression may be involved in tumor progression and its silencing can diminish cell growth. Although not yet definitively linked to interacting drugs or safety challenges, its expression profile suggests a potential as a novel cancer biomarker and future therapeutic target.
