Overview

SLC36A3 (Solute carrier family 36 member 3, also known as PAT3 or TRAMD2) is a predicted proton-coupled amino acid transporter belonging to the SLC36 family and the larger AAAP family within the APC superfamily[3][5]. It is primarily expressed in the testes and remains classified as an orphan transporter with no currently established physiological function or confirmed substrate specificity[2][3]. Unlike its well-characterized paralogs SLC36A1 and SLC36A2, which mediate the H^+-symport of amino acids in the intestine and kidney, SLC36A3's biological and pathological roles are unknown. Early functional annotations suggest transmembrane transport of amino acids and carboxylic acids, but this has not yet been confirmed in vivo[5]. Current research on SLC36A3 is limited, with no known direct association with disease, no validated drug interactions, and no clinical or pharmacological exploitability at this time[2][3][5].
