Solute carrier family 37 member 3 (SLC37A3) is an endoplasmic reticulum-associated membrane protein belonging to the SLC37 family of sugar-phosphate exchangers. It shares moderate sequence similarity with other SLC37 family members but remains uniquely uncharacterized in terms of its exact transport activity or physiological substrate. SLC37A3 is expressed highly in murine neutrophils and pancreas, and is also present in liver, kidney, intestine, and macrophages, suggesting potential roles in immune function and metabolism. Although mutations in the gene have been observed in a case of congenital hyperinsulinism of infancy, its physiological and pathological functions have not been confirmed and no clear disease mechanism has been established. No drugs or inhibitory compounds are currently known to target this protein directly, and there are no clinical biomarkers or safety concerns described for this transporter.
