Solute carrier family 38 member 12 (SLC38A12), also known as Transmembrane protein 104 (TMEM104), is a member of the solute carrier 38 family of membrane transporters in humans[7][9]. SLC38A12 is predicted to function as a sodium-coupled transporter of neutral amino acids, although its precise substrates and physiological roles are less characterized compared with other SLC38 family members[9]. It is a transmembrane protein localized primarily to the plasma membrane, with expression across various tissues at modest levels[2]. TMEM104 is 496 amino acids in length, and gene expression and conservation studies suggest it is widely conserved among vertebrates and some invertebrates[2].
