SLC4A1APP1 (solute carrier family 4 member 1 adaptor protein pseudogene 1) is a noncoding segment of DNA that resembles the SLC4A1 adaptor protein gene but has lost its ability to produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations. Like most pseudogenes, SLC4A1APP1 may be transcribed in some contexts but is not known to play a direct functional role in cellular processes, nor is it relevant in disease or as a drug target. Pseudogenes such as SLC4A1APP1 are sometimes annotated in genome studies and can complicate genetic analyses due to their sequence similarity to functional genes.
