Solute carrier family 5 member 4 pseudogene 1 (SLC5A4P1)

Target
SLC5A4P1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Related to Transporter (by homology), specifically sodium/glucose cotransporter family (SLC5)
01

Overview

Solute carrier family 5 member 4 pseudogene 1 (SLC5A4P1) is a pseudogene in humans—the sequence is homologous to SLC5A4, a member of the sodium/glucose cotransporter family (SLC5) that, in its functional form, helps transport glucose and sodium across cell membranes[3][5]. However, SLC5A4P1 contains mutations that prevent it from producing a functional protein and it is considered nonfunctional; it is not known to encode a protein or contribute to biological processes directly[2][5][8]. Pseudogenes like SLC5A4P1 may occasionally play roles in gene regulation at the RNA level, but for this pseudogene, no such function is currently established[2]. SLC5A4P1 is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it involved in human disease or pharmacology as a direct target. Its presence in databases reflects sequence homology and evolutionary history with transporter genes, not functional activity.
