Target intelligence / Profile preview
Solute carrier family 7 member 4 (SLC7A4) is a predicted amino acid transporter of the SLC7 family, sharing high sequence similarity to known cationic amino acid transporters (CATs) such as CAT-1, CAT-2, and CAT-3. While initially classified as a cationic amino acid transporter based on homology and known as CAT-4, current experimental evidence suggests that SLC7A4 does not display measurable amino acid transport activity when expressed alone in standard systems and may require additional protein partners to function, or could serve a different cellular role entirely[2][3][4]. It is primarily expressed in the plasma membrane and has been implicated in some copy number variation syndromes and cancer, but its definitive physiological or pathophysiological function is still unclear[3][7].
