Target
SLC7A6
Molecular classification

01

Overview

Solute carrier family 7 member 6 (SLC7A6, also known as Y+L amino acid transporter 2 or Y+LAT2) is a plasma membrane transporter that forms a heterodimeric complex with SLC3A2 (4F2hc). It mediates the electroneutral exchange of cationic amino acids (such as L-arginine and L-lysine) for neutral amino acids (such as L-leucine and L-glutamine), with sodium-dependence for neutral amino acids. SLC7A6 is important for cellular uptake and efflux of amino acids, nitric oxide production, and ammonia clearance. Its overexpression is linked with enhanced amino acid uptake and signaling pathways promoting cancer growth. Dysfunction is implicated in disorders like lysinuric protein intolerance and cystinuria[1][2][3][4].

Mechanism of action

Transports/exchanges cationic and neutral amino acids across the plasma membrane, either sodium-independent (for cationic) or sodium-dependent (for neutral), functioning as an antiporter[1][2][3][4].

Safety considerations

Potential impact on nitrogen metabolism and nitric oxide production, especially in settings like cancer and metabolic disease, but there are no specific known drug safety concerns described in current sources[1].

Biomarkers

Upregulation of SLC7A6 (Y+LAT2) in tumors is associated with increased amino acid uptake and mTORC1 activation[1].
