Solute carrier family pseudogene

Solute carrier family pseudogene (ENSG00000285388) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence bearing similarity to solute carrier (SLC) transporter genes, which normally encode membrane proteins responsible for the transport of diverse substrates such as ions, sugars, and amino acids[5][7]. This pseudogene is incapable of producing a functional protein product due to disabling mutations or missing regulatory elements[2][4]. Pseudogenes such as this may be transcribed at low levels but have no established role in signal transduction or disease and can occasionally interfere with genetic analysis due to sequence similarity with functional genes[4][6]. This locus is not considered a drug target, nor is it involved in any known mechanism of therapeutic action.
